General Description:

Performs radiographic procedures for diagnostic interpretation in the Diagnostic Imaging Department and patient rooms. General Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Lead Technologist of Interventional Radiology, works with staff radiologists performing invasive radiology procedures. Performs radiographic procedures for diagnostic interpretation in the Diagnostic Imaging Department and patient rooms. The position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice® and philosophies of Parrish Healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides all aspects of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology or Cardiac Cath Care based on established standards. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served evidenced by: The ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs; a knowledge of growth and development; and understanding of how to compensate technical factors to provide an optimal clinical image for interpretation. B. Diagnostic Radiology
- Administers contrast agents when appropriate using department established criteria and guidelines for the correct agent, computer entry for charge capture and recognition of adverse patient reactions. Completes all necessary documentation related to contrast media use.
- Selects proper technical factors, positioning, and equipment to optimally demonstrate patient anatomy and corresponding pathology. Uses department protocol for positions selected. Demonstrates good judgment of acceptable completed exam quality in the absence of a lead technologist or supervisor. Uses patient immobilization devices to prevent patient motion and provide for patient safety, transports patients when needed.
- Directly assists radiologist in the performance of invasive radiology procedures delivering quality care to all patients through the use of procedures and protocols to include sterile technique.
- Assists in the orientation and maintenance of instrumentation in Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging.
- Assists in ordering and maintaining inventory of contrast, sterile and nonsterile supplies and equipment from storeroom and outside sources. Directs special orders to lead technologist as necessary
- Assists in patient assessment from admission through discharge, documenting accordingly, and communicates pertinent information to nursing staff as indicated. Communicates with other department areas to coordinate patient flow for multiple procedures.
- Prepares and verifies daily function of equipment necessary to perform daily procedures. Performs quality assurance and is responsible for knowing manufacturers safety recommendations for all equipment. Maintains cleanliness and general order of procedure room. Cleans equipment and follows infection control guidelines.
- Ensures patient, physician, and personal radiation protection by ascertaining pregnancy status when indicated, using gonadal shielding when appropriate and practicing ALARA principles (time, distance, shielding) of dose reduction.
- Completes computer related duties to ensure proper charging, patient tracking, and reporting. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all department forms and flow charts, and their proper usage. Demonstrates proper knowledge of PACS and ability to send images from Toshiba equipment to the PACS equipment.
- Assists in the cross training of employees and taking part in the on-call coverage as coordinated by supervisor.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
- Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area
Requirements:
Formal Education:
- Associate's Degree, ADN or other Two Year College equivalent required.
Work experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year experience
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
- Florida State DOH License required
- ARRT Registered RT(R) required
- BLS through the American Heart Association required
