Establishes and is responsible for section protocol and procedures. Maintains budget control, inventory, cost containment, section productivity, and employee staffing, training and evaluations. Must be able to fulfill all duties and responsibilities of staff in the section. Is the Technologist in Charge of the laboratory as directed in the absence of the Administrative Director and Laboratory Operations Manager.

General Description:
Under the general supervision of the Administrative Director and/or the Laboratory Operations Manager, is responsible for the technical and administrative supervision of a specific department within the laboratory. Establishes and is responsible for section protocol and procedures. Maintains budget control, inventory, cost containment, section productivity, and employee staffing, training and evaluations. Must be able to fulfill all duties and responsibilities of staff in the section. Is the Technologist in Charge of the laboratory as directed in the absence of the Administrative Director and Laboratory Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervises employees and assigns tasks to best utilize the personnel assigned to the section. Promotes department efficiency
- Plans, organizes, coordinates and controls activities of the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). Troubleshoots all LIS functions for the laboratory, pathology, microbiology and blood bank modules
- Is responsible for managing the Laboratory Outreach program. This includes supervising the billing activities of the Parrish Medical Center Reference Laboratory and its staff. Act as liaison for clients.
- Works closely with Hospital Outreach Coordinator to create strategies, emphasize strengths, add sales, marketing communications, increase managed care access and more connectivity solutions to the Laboratory Outreach Program.
- Completes annual performance evaluations for employees within the section including competency testing and remedial training.
- Monitors time and attendance, section productivity and oversees sections= staffing.
- Advises staff when decision-making is required. Participates in the disciplinary process when indicated
- Evaluates and recommends new and prospective hardware and/or software development for the laboratory to the Administrative Director.
- Develops operational techniques when new methods or instructions are instituted and writes procedures in compliance with accreditation agency standards. Assures all procedures are updated and reviewed annually.
- Attends required inservice and meetings including interdepartmental and intra departmental.
- Designs, writes and tests NPR reports, calculation hooks, rules and report formats for patient summaries and activity reports. Establishes and maintains procedure protocol and policy for the section
- Responsible for set up, revision, and training of Meditech computer related information for the section, including lab specifications for laboratory interfaces, computer downtime, including coordinating staffing and bring system back up.
- Responsible for maintaining the security of the LIS by controlling access to menus, functions and confidentiality of patient.
- Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area.
- Monitors and assures proper handling and disposal of flammable material within this section, according to protocol.
Requirements:
Formal Education:
- Associate's Degree, ADN or other Two Year College equivalent required.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of one (3) year experience.
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
- Florida State Medical Technologist License
