General Description:
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the preparation, dispensing, and delivery of medications. Orders and controls medication inventory. Performs billing functions for IV's, medications, and floor stock medication items. Is authorized to handle and have access to medications and medication storage areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Fills Pyxis, Pyxis Cubbies, & non-Pyxis medications and delivers them to the Nursing units.
  • Assists in IV preparation.
  • Interviews patients, family member or caretaker to obtain medication histories. Enters information into patient information system for Medical Staff review. Contacts pharmacies, physician offices, or other providers to obtain accurate medication history information.
  • Fills initial medication orders and delivers them to patient care areas.*
  • Medication inventory functions (accesses par levels, records needs, looks up wholesaler numbers, and places electronic orders).
  • Credits and returns to stock IV's and medications, checks all clinical areas for returns each run
  • Checks in and puts away medications and IV fluids from wholesaler and storeroom.
  • Answers telephones and troubleshoots missing medication questions from patient care areas.
  • Runs and fills out pharmacy information system reports (i.e. allergy and expired medications).
  • Fills stock medication orders, checks par levels, checks expiration dates, and delivers medications.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned

Requirements:

Formal Education:
  • Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship required beyond high school. Medical Terminology desired.

Work Experience:
  • No experience required

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician in Florida
