General Description:
This position reports to the Patient Access Manager/Supervisor. The Patient Registrar is responsible for promoting and demonstrating Parrish Healthcare's Culture of Choice®; patient registration. Interviews patients for all pertinent account information and verifies insurance coverage. Responsible for collecting patients' financial responsibilities at time of registration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interview patients, his or her relatives, or other responsible individuals at assigned workstation or at bedside to obtain all necessary account information. Bed-side registration performed utilizing carts/computers on wheels
- Welcome patients and family members in a professional manner, following AIDET guidelines in all interactions in order to provide exemplary Customer Service.
- Search MPI completely and assign the correct medical record number. Notify HIM for any duplicate unit numbers
- Ensure charts/patient accounts are completed and accurate
- Verify insurance benefits and determines pre-certification/authorization status via online or other resources. If pre-certification/authorization/notification of admission is required and has not been obtained, initiate via on-line or phone call. - Enter all information and authorization/referral numbers into the registration system.
- Understand/explain policies regarding services, pricing, insurance billing, and payment of account. Request full or partial payment for services rendered according to collection policies.
- Assign Insurance Plans accurately
- Ensure that all necessary signatures are obtained for treatments, release of medical information, assignment of insurance benefits, and payment for services from legal responsible parties.
- Obtain copies of necessary identification and insurance cards.
- Answers any questions and explains policies clearly regarding services, pricing, insurance billing, and payment of account. Request full or partial payment for services rendered according to collection policies.
- Follow all guidelines set forth in the Cash Handling Policy
- Process patient charts according to paperwork flow needs
- Contact the nursing staff for emergency medical needs and answer patient and visitor questions
- Cross-trained to register patients in any registration area
- Work with physician offices and ancillary departments, providing information when necessary or forwarding relevant document
- Retrieve orders from the electronic fax order system and scan appropriately into the EMR system (Meditech/Athena)
- Escort patient to his/her destination or refers patient to an available transporter
- Activate all pre-registered patients that have reported for service
- Meets/exceeds performance expectations and completes work within the required timeframe. (7 registrations per hour)
- Practice and adhere to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement"
- Successfully complete annual net learning modules and other assigned classes by established deadlines
- Follow EMTALA, HIPAA and other regulatory guidelines
- Proactively identify problems and safety issues within the department and the hospital which place any patient, visitor or staff member at risk of injury
- Reports any medical errors or safety concerns within the organization utilizing the hotline, RL or through direct report to Supervisor/Manager or Director
Formal Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Work Experience:
- 1 year to < 2 years related experience required.
