General Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist, performs diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures, handles radioactive materials in compliance with Federal and State regulatory agencies, performs quality control on equipment, and interacts with physicians and support personnel in coordination of patient studies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides all aspects of Nuclear Medicine care based on established standards. DEMONSTRATES COMPETENCY in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served evidenced by: The ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs; a knowledge of growth and development; and understanding of how to compensate technical factors to provide an optimal clinical image for interpretation.   • Provides for ordering, safe storage and routing of supplies and radionuclides in Nuclear Medicine in the absence of the Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Receives, assays radionuclides, prepares doses and kits, performs dose calculations and administers radiopharmaceutical as appropriate for the procedure requested. Maintains records for all radionuclides ordered, used, and disposed in accordance with regulatory agencies.*
  • Selects proper technical factors, positioning and equipment to optimally demonstrate patient anatomy and corresponding pathology. Uses department protocol for positions selected. Demonstrates good judgment of acceptable completed exam quality in the absence of a supervisor. Demonstrates ability to process all required studies according to protocol and produce quality images.*
  • Ensures patient and personnel safety in compliance with Federal and State regulations to include adherence to ALARA, ascertaining pregnancy status, and practicing principles of radiation safety (i.e. time, distance, shielding).*
  • Monitors and documents proper patient status during procedures. Maintains accurate records and completes computer related duties to ensure proper charging, patient tracking and reporting. Communicates patient needs and/or pertinent assessment information to the radiologist (or other healthcare providers) as it pertains to the exam. *
  • Performs routine quality control on all equipment and notifies Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist of equipment problems.
  • Is available for Nuclear Medicine call back as scheduled. Is available for radiation contamination accident as necessary.*
  • Remains current with continuing education, including required in-house programs.
  • Maintains a neat, orderly working environment. Follows infection control guidelines. Reads posted department communications and attends staff meetings.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertain to the work area.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Formal Education:
  • Associate's Degree, ADN or other Two Year College equivalent required.

Work Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
  • Florida State DOH License
  • BCLS
  • CNMT or ARRT Registered RT(N)
