This position trains and oversees Medical Assistants and provides guidance and/or training as needed. General Description:
The Lead Practice Assistant reports to the Site Manager. Key Responsibilities:
- Cultivates a relationship of mutual respect with providers and staff. Works with Site Manager to facilitate provider understanding and acceptance of good business management. Works with clinical staff to provide leadership and trains new medical assistants.
- Maintains appropriate clinical staffing and supply par levels to achieve practice goals. Contributes to financial viability through service quality and clinical excellence.
- Oversees MA staff; ensures all clinical requests such as refills, test results, patient calls, etc. are handled in a timely manner.
- Supports and applies a working knowledge of the department standards and policies. Assists with scheduling and/or authorizations as needed.
- Verify all charges are documented for billing in a timely manner.
- Understands quality measures and can communicate the tracking of quality measures to other medical assistants through the EMR system.
- Prepares patients for formal assessment by obtaining vital signs, documenting and initiating patient's history/complaint, memory testing, and performs other diagnostic tests and/or therapeutic treatments, as ordered.
- Demonstrates commitment to Service Excellence by understanding the needs of the patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
- Assists the care provider in minor procedures. Maintains proper sterilization of correct equipment using accepted techniques. Maintains a neat and orderly exam area with supplies necessary.
- Communicates to attending and referring physicians, nurse practitioners, and other patient care team members, as needed. Liaison between patient and Physician regarding clinical questions.
- Orders medical supplies and maintains office inventory. Uses office fax and copier, EMR, scanner.
- Follows established protocol with sending patients for ordered ancillary testing and follow through.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergency situations. Attends and participates in mandatory meetings.
- Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area.
Requirements:
Formal Education:
- College education preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of medical assistant training program required.
Work Experience:
- >2 years in an outpatient medical clinic or hospital, medical office setting.
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
- Medical Assistant Certification required.
- CPR and FIRST AID required.
- Yellow Belt Certification required within first year.
