General Description:

To provide superior quality, competitive value, and outstanding customer service by providing invasive cardiovascular, peripheral, permanent pacemaker / ICD, and electrophysiology studies in a timely, safe and efficient manner. The Invasive specialist needs to be proficient in all aspects of angiography, sterile preparation, assessment, documentation, and monitoring consistent with the policies and procedures of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and hospital administration, with responsibility to adhere to all the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to approved standards of aseptic technique during a Cardiac Cath Lab procedure, utilizing equipment and supplies in a safe and prudent manner. Facilitate implementation of physician's orders accurately, promptly, and courteously. Assists the physician and anticipates equipment needs. Demonstrates technical and manual dexterity during procedures while establishing priorities for each task to be performed under a physician's direction.
  • Demonstrates competency and knowledge in efficiently preparing a patient for Cardiac Cath Lab procedure using established aseptic technique. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology and uses this knowledge to enhance hemodynamic and angiographic techniques as observed by attending physician.
  • Utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner. Recognizes and communicates the electrocardiographic/hemodynamic changes to the physician and appropriate staff members throughout the procedure. Assists with cleaning of rooms, restocking and updating supplies.
  • Files all patient data and films in accordance with the established department system on a daily basis as observed by the Manager/Supervisor. Documents accurate and pertinent data concerning the patient's condition during procedure and reports data to the appropriate person. Records temporary playback of procedure for initial, immediate review by physician. Prepares patient (preps, clips) in a timely fashion and notifies physician promptly.
  • Moves, lifts, assists patient appropriately to procedure table and provides for maximum privacy during procedure. Demonstrates ability to learn and practice new techniques and equipment utilization by attending training sessions and familiarizing self with new procedure revisions as they occur. Gives report to accepting nurse and accompanies patient to his/her room when necessary.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate, problem-solve and improvise common equipment malfunctions. Communicates effectively and frequently with team members to share information and solve problems in a positive manner as observed by the Manager/Supervisor. Assists with development and implementation of departmental PI indicators and projects. Capable of performing CQI daily before beginning cases. Participates in continuing education programs and fulfills all Florida state requirements in regards to licensure and provides documentation of these programs to their direct supervisor/manager. Promotes interdepartmental/client relationships with positive interactive skills, and maintains a professional, team-orientated working environment.
  • Recognizes potential emergency/life threatening situations and implements preventative measures as directed by the physician. Ability to perform all aspects of monitoring, recording, scrubbing, and holding Room responsibilities with exceptional level of professionalism and expertise.
  • Demonstrates and practices proper protection measures to minimize risk of exposure to possible hazardous materials and insure radiation safety to self, fellow employees, visitors and physicians.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area


Formal Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree or equivalent preferred.
    • Graduate of accredited program in Cardiopulmonary Technology/Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist or Respiratory Therapy/Radiological Technology/EMS-P with at least two years of experience.

Work Experience:
  • 0 to < 1 years. Previous Interventional Cardiology experience preferred.
  • Previous Electrophysiology experience preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
  • Current Florida License: RRT, RT(R), CRTT, EMT-P, or CVT preferred.
  • Current RCIS or RTCV certification or obtain within 24 months of employment.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS or obtain within 3 months of employment.
