General Description:
Under the supervision of the Lead Neurodiagnostic Technologist or his designee, performs, monitors and scores sleep-related diagnostic procedures utilizing a multidisciplinary approach in an acute care or diagnostic testing environment. Strong knowledge and understanding of the disease process with all procedures performed. Assessment and reassessment of the patient with the development of a care plan are completed and monitored. Competent to apply skills with specific types of equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs, monitors and scores sleep related diagnostic procedures including PAP, oxygen titration, multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT), etc. based on established standards. Evaluates effectiveness and makes changes as needed. Provides patient follow-up as required. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate for all ages of patients served. Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric
  • Competent to apply skills to use, teach others, and troubleshoot the specific types of equipment used to perform the above procedures. Will process equipment through infection control procedures for all equipment used within the labs.
  • Perform patient support functions utilizing knowledge and understanding of the disease process while maintaining principles of infection control and safety, i.e., education, transport, charging of procedure, gathering of patient information.
  • Competent to provide input to expedite the treatment, assist the physician with evaluations and procedures, and collaborate with other health team members. Provides appropriate education to patient/family.
  • Competent in the processing of all patient reports and billing procedures for Neurodiagnostic tests.
  • Assists with the gathering of quality control and process improvement data for the equipment and procedures used within the labs. Gathers statistical data, quality control information, and reviews policies and procedures to meet JCAHO guidelines.
  • Maintains and evaluates the ordering and stocking of supplies used within the labs.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to work area.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Formal Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED plus 1 year of direct patient care experience or 1 year post-secondary education from accredited educational program with emphasis in polysomnography.
  • Associates Degree preferred.

Work Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist - RPSGT If registry eligible must obtain RPSGT within first year of hire date
  • BCLS
