General Description:
The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Support Specialist reports to the HIM Operations Manager. The EMR Support Specialist ensures the integrity of the EMR; functions as the super-user for HIM applications as designated; monitors the quality and accuracy of scanned documents; audits medical records for proper form usage; and communicates results to the appropriate parties. The EMR Support Specialist is responsible for compiling, organizing, interpreting and reporting data from multiple sources to various stakeholders; coordinating the forms management program for the system; and supporting various projects related to HIM applications, EMR workflows, coding, and reimbursement. Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs with accuracy day-to-day tasks to support the HIM department including but not limited to creating reports, validating data, compiling data for analysis, and presenting information for decision making.
  • Designs, creates, and identifies tools to determine the current state of the Unbilled, HIM performance tracking, quality tracking, and HIM productivity metrics.
  • Formats, barcodes, and uploads all clinical forms into the forms repository. Coordinates the Forms Management program, responsible for keeping all forms up to date, cataloged, and in compliance with The Joint Commission and hospital standards.
  • Performs quality assurance of scanned documents to assess accuracy and tracks errors, providing feedback to the HIM Operations Manager.
  • Performs routine audits of medical records and clinical units for proper form usage and inventory for the system
  • Coordinates the Forms Oversight and the Order-set Governance committees; prepares the agenda, minutes, and provides data for review.
  • Coordinates the Records Management processes including but not limited to offsite storage inventory, destruction of records, and process improvements.
  • Manages content of FormFast as well as user access, which includes troubleshooting of any FormFast related technical issues, and contacting vendor if needed.
  • Supports the adoption and implementation of department applications including but not limited to the EMR, HIM applications, coding and CDI applications, and clinical applications; participates on planning and validating workgroups
  • Participates in process improvement and workflow optimization assuring compliance, efficiency, and financial performance
  • Cross-trains and functions as a backup to help other areas of HIM Operations as needed
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area.

Requirements:

Formal Education:
  • Bachelors degree required. Degree/Major preferred: HIM, Information Technology/Systems, Informatics, or related healthcare technology field.

Work Experience:
  • 2-3 years of healthcare data analysis, decision support, report writing, or related HIM/IT experience required. At least one year experience in a hospital HIM department strongly preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or other AHIMA credentials required. Eligibility for an AHIMA credential may be considered for the right candidate who obtains the credential within one year of hire.
